Again, the federal government has thrown Western Canada under the bus in order to protect Ontario and Quebec industries.
In October 2024, the federal government placed a 100 per cent tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles and a 25 per cent tariff on aluminium and steel products from China.
The federal Liberals knew China would respond with its own tariffs. This was done in previous trade wars with China.

The tariffs, of course, would be, once again, on Western Canadian products that we rely on and ship to China.
It was no surprise that on March 8 China announced 100 per cent cent tariffs on Canadian canola oil and peas, plus a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian aquatic products and Canadian pork.
So, we in Western Canada are being punished to save Eastern products.
Treatment of Western Canada by the Federal Government is disgraceful!

Securing Canadian high tech critical
Canadians are rallying around the flag, as it becomes more and more clear Donald Trump’s threat to our sovereignty is real.
A trade war, the constant belittling of our leadership, and too many other slights to count are designed to solicit a specific effect. Our response has been considered, measured, and correct. We have another strength that we should add to our potential arsenal — our information.
More and more American economic success is based on technology companies that collect our data and use it to make their profits. Without the ‘”Big Tech sector”, over the last decade, U.S. stock market performance would have been mediocre at best.

We all have “free” email accounts, cloud storage services, and the like. Governments and businesses use them, too.
Increasingly, these services are designed to lock clients and their data. Writers and commentators have long acquainted us to this fact. Now, the discussion is expanding to what the impact of this Big Tech business model is on our sovereignty.
Economic power is political — as the role of Elon Musk in the U.S. administration shows. Reporting has said that he is concerned not only with government efficiency, but government data as well.
Could our government and business data be at risk?
Clearly we need to secure our sensitive information in Canadian hands.
Just like reducing internal trade barriers, building Canadian pipelines, and expanding our foreign trading partners, information infrastructure is key to keeping the True North Strong and Free.
