Roughriders sign former NFL defensive back

On Monday, the CFL team signed American defensive back Mark Webb. The 26-year-old Webb spent three years with the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers after being drafted by the club in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

In his rookie season in 2021, the the 6-foot-1, 207-pound Webb recorded three defensive tackles in seven regular season games. After spending the next two years mainly on the practice roster, he was released by the Chargers in 2023.

Prior to turning pro, the Philadelphia native played four seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs from 2017-20. While he was recruited as a receiver, Webb converted to defensive back and went on to notch 82 tackles, nine pass deflections, two forced fumbles and an interception in 49 games. He also played in the 2020 Senior Bowl, where he had five tackles.
